Membershipterms
01About these terms
These terms apply to memberships and day and week passes at Base Gym Bristol and Base Gym Yeovil. By joining, buying a pass or using either gym, you agree to them. “We” and “us” means Base Gym; “you” means the member or pass holder.
Memberships are sold through our membership provider, Ashbourne Management, whose sign-up pages may include further terms about payment. If you have any questions, email [email protected].
02Memberships and payment
You can choose:
- A monthly membership paid by direct debit, with a 2-month minimum term.
- An upfront membership for 6 or 12 months, paid in full when you join.
- A concession membership at a reduced monthly rate, if you are eligible (see Eligibility and concessions).
Current prices are shown on our Bristol and Yeovil membership pages. We may change prices; for direct debit memberships we will give you at least 30 days’ notice before a new price applies. Upfront memberships are not affected during the period you have paid for.
If a direct debit payment fails, we may pause your access until the balance is paid, and we may pass unpaid amounts to our membership provider to recover.
03Cooling-off period
If you join online, you can cancel within 14 days of the day you join and receive a refund, by emailing [email protected]. If you ask to start using the gym during those 14 days and then cancel, we may deduct a fair amount for the time you have had access.
04Cancelling
After the 2-month minimum term, you can cancel a direct debit membership at any time with 10 days’ notice by emailing [email protected].
If your notice is given within 10 days of your next payment date, that month’s payment is still due, and your membership continues until the end of the period it covers.
Upfront memberships end at the end of the period paid for and do not renew automatically. Outside the cooling-off period, upfront memberships are not refundable, except where the law requires.
05Freezing
You can freeze your membership free of charge for a minimum of one month, for as long as you need. To arrange a freeze, email [email protected].
06Day and week passes
A day pass is valid on the day of purchase. A week pass is valid for 7 consecutive days, starting on the day of purchase.
At Base Gym Bristol, passes are paid for at reception. At Base Gym Yeovil, passes are bought online through our sign-up page.
Passes are for the named person only, cannot be transferred, and are not refundable once used.
07Eligibility and concessions
The minimum age is 16. If you are 16 or 17, a parent or guardian must sign up on your behalf and accepts these terms for you.
Concession rates are available to blue light employees, armed forces and veterans, students, under-18s and over-60s. We may ask for proof of eligibility when you join or at any time during your membership. If you are no longer eligible, please tell us; we may move you to the standard rate.
08Your health and safety
You are responsible for making sure you are fit to exercise. If you have a medical condition, injury, are pregnant or are unsure, please get advice from a doctor before training. Stop exercising and get help if you feel unwell.
Use equipment only as intended, within your ability, and follow instructions from staff. Please tell staff about any damaged equipment straight away.
Base Gym Yeovil is open for self-access entry at times when staff are not on site. If you train at those times, you do so at your own risk and must take extra care, especially with heavy lifts.
09Gym rules
To keep both gyms safe and pleasant for everyone:
- treat other members and staff with respect; abusive, threatening or discriminatory behaviour is not tolerated;
- return weights and equipment after use and wipe down equipment;
- wear suitable clothing and footwear;
- do not share your access details, or let anyone else into the gym, including through the turnstile at Yeovil;
- ask before filming or photographing other people, and do not film in changing areas;
- follow any further rules displayed at the gym or given by staff.
If you break these terms or the gym rules, we may suspend or end your membership or pass. If we end a membership because of a serious breach, we will not refund payments already made, except where the law requires.
10Lockers and belongings
Lockers are available at Base Gym Bristol; please bring your own padlock. Belongings left anywhere in the gyms are at your own risk. Items left behind may be removed, and anything unclaimed after 30 days may be disposed of.
11Personal trainers
Personal trainers at our gyms set their own prices and take their own bookings. Any training arrangement, including payment and cancellation, is between you and the trainer, and you will need to be a member or have a valid pass to train at the gym.
12Opening hours and closures
Opening hours are shown on each gym’s page and may change. Both gyms may close or limit access for holidays, maintenance, events or reasons outside our control. We will give notice of planned changes where we can. Short or occasional closures do not entitle you to a refund or reduction.
13Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Otherwise, we are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, for loss of or damage to belongings except where caused by our negligence, or for injury resulting from not following these terms, the gym rules or staff instructions.
14Your information
We use your personal information as described in our privacy and cookie policy, including CCTV and access records at our premises.
15Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will tell members about significant changes before they take effect, and the latest version will always be on this page. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
